Polygon rider Tayte Proulx-Royds put down a career-defining run at Crankworx Whistler, finishing P4 in the Elite Women’s field on the unforgiving 1199 track. The Kelowna, BC native raced her Collosus DH9, going toe-to-toe with some of the fastest downhill riders in the world.
The Canadian Open DH at Crankworx Whistler has one of the most stacked start lists in downhill racing, and this year it delivered exactly the kind of chaos, speed, and heartbreak the sport is known for. Right in the middle of it: our own Tayte Proulx-Royds, who piloted her Collosus DH9 to a P4 finish in the Elite Women’s field on Whistler’s infamous 1199 track.
The Collosus DH has already been tested at the highest level of the sport, including Red Bull Rampage and rounds of the UCI Downhill World Cup, and Tayte’s Whistler result is another strong showing for the bike on home soil.
A brutal track, and a Kelowna kid who wasn’t backing down.
The 1199 track has built a reputation as one of the gnarliest DH tracks on the Crankworx calendar – steep, technical, and unforgiving of even the smallest mistake. It showed all weekend: fast qualifiers crashed out of medal position, seeding order got scrambled in finals, and the elite women’s race in particular came down to a handful of seconds across the whole top five.
Tayte crossed the line just 11.260 seconds off the race winner, good enough for 4th overall against a start list packed with World Cup-calibre talent. It’s the kind of result that doesn’t always make headlines, but for anyone who watched the livestream, it was obvious that she rode with the composure of someone who belonged exactly where she was.
That’s not new for Tayte. She’s the reigning Canadian Junior Downhill National Champion, with a résumé that includes national titles, top-10 UCI World Cup results, and a Dark Horse Award win as the youngest athlete ever invited to that event. Based in Kelowna, BC, she’s been racing mountain bikes for essentially her entire life and results like this are exactly why she’s become one of the riders to watch in Canadian gravity racing.
